Volunteering Ventures: The Month of Meaningful Giving

  • Heather Slotnick, MLO Managing Partner

At MLO, our team’s commitment to creativity, care, and dedication extends well beyond the office. During this season of gratitude, we’re taking a moment to spotlight the ways our team members give back to their communities. From food rescue programs to classroom activities, here’s how MLO contributes to building stronger, more connected communities.

Heather Slotnick: Lending a Hand with the Encinitas CRC

Heather is honored to volunteer with the Encinitas Community Resource Center (CRC) through their Fresh Rescue program. As a truck rider and loader assistant, she helps collect and distribute donated food items from local grocery stores. Whether navigating pick-up routes or unloading boxes of fresh, healthy food, Heather is proud to play a role in ensuring families in need have access to nutritious meals—especially during the busy holiday season. Her work with CRC reflects a deep commitment to supporting others, whether in her community or through our firm’s mission to serve our clients with care and dedication.

Grace Schulz: Building Homes and Community

Grace devotes her time to supporting those in need through Street Life Ministries, serving meals to homeless individuals. She also volunteers at her church, organizing and sometimes attending annual mission trips to Mexico to build homes for families in need in partnership with Amor Ministries. Grace’s efforts embody compassion and community service, inspiring those around her to make a difference.

Steve Durant: Delivering Meals with a Smile

Steve enjoyed his time in California working in support of Meals-on-Wheels, which delivers meals to home-bound individuals.  Steve’s work reminds us of the importance of kindness in strengthening the bonds within our communities.

Julianne Francis: Leading for Social Justice

Julianne actively supports her community through leadership roles at her church and collaboration with a local nonprofit dedicated to social justice initiatives. Her efforts bring people together to take action on important projects, showcasing her commitment to creating a fairer, more inclusive world.

Paul Stuart: Sharing the Blues (or Lack Thereof) with Apple University

Paul Stuart brings his passion for learning and music to his children’s elementary school as part of the “Apple University” program. This winter, he’ll lead an introductory harmonica course, offering children an opportunity to explore music—even if they’re too young to have the blues. Paul’s enthusiasm for teaching and creativity is infectious, inspiring young minds to embrace new skills and possibilities.

At MLO, we’re incredibly proud of our team’s contributions to their communities. Whether it’s serving meals, volunteering in classrooms, or building homes, their efforts reflect the same dedication and compassion they bring to their work every day. This November, we celebrate the spirit of giving that runs through our firm and look forward to continuing this legacy of service into the future.
